§ 6.12.110. Impoundment; fees.

  • (a)

    The Code Enforcement Officer shall have charge and custody of all dogs impounded and shall keep the animals impounded for a period of no less than five (5) days unless the dog is sooner redeemed.

    (b)

    A fraction of a day shall be computed as being a full day.

    (c)

    The Code Enforcement Officer is authorized to charge the owner of any dog impounded the following fee: fifty dollars ($50.00) for the first time a dog is picked up in a given year; seventy-five dollars ($75.00) for the second time a dog is picked up in a given year; and one hundred dollars ($100.00) for the third and succeeding times a dog is picked up in a given year.

    (d)

    Should a dog be impounded for any period exceeding five (5) days, an additional fee of ten dollars ($10.00) per day shall be imposed.

    (e)

    In the case of the impoundment of a dog arising from a dog bite circumstance, in addition to the fees charged above, the owner shall be assessed a veterinarian observation fee of fifty dollars ($50.00) per animal per observation.
